For more than ten years, the CommonSpirit Health Foundation’s annual Humankindness Gala has done far more than bring people together for an evening of celebration. It has united thousands of supporters around a simple yet transformative belief: when care is delivered with humankindness, lives are changed.
The gala began as a vision to honor the extraordinary healing power of compassion while raising resources to address some of the most urgent health needs across the country. Year after year, the event has exceeded expectations, becoming a cornerstone of CommonSpirit’s philanthropic mission. Together, our donors have created a ripple effect of healing that stretches from local neighborhoods to communities across the nation.
The impact of a decade
The Humankindness Gala is not simply about a single night—it’s about the lives changed because of what follows. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the Foundation has advanced innovative programs that directly respond to some of the greatest health challenges of our time. Because of you:
- 90,000 patients have been connected with mental health services through groundbreaking AI and telehealth tools, ensuring timely support when it is needed most.
- Over 22,000 caregivers have received trauma-informed training to identify and respond to signs of human trafficking, offering pathways to safety and healing.
- 9,000 youth have learned how to prevent and reduce firearm injuries through violence prevention education.
- 50,000 women have received maternal mental health screenings and education, helping mothers find joy and stability in their most vulnerable moments.
- Nearly one million students have been empowered through Brainbook, a digital platform that provides concussion education and access to specialized care.
- In 2024 alone, 64,212 individuals were connected to resources such as housing, nutritious food, reliable transportation, meaningful work, and personal safety through CommonSpirit’s community health initiatives.
These numbers represent more than statistics. They are people—like Joretta, who found a path out of substance dependence; Courtney, who learned how to safely continue her love of soccer after multiple concussions; Mollie, who is equipping families in Kentucky with life-saving gun safety education; Matthew, who overcame homelessness and now helps others do the same; Holly, who transformed her own trauma into a nationally recognized program to fight human trafficking; and Lourdes, who discovered hope in the midst of postpartum depression.
Their stories remind us that philanthropy is not abstract. It is personal. It touches lives one by one, creating ripples that build healthier, more compassionate communities.
More than money
What sets the Humankindness Gala apart is not only the funds raised but also the message it sends. Each gift, each sponsorship, each hand extended in generosity affirms something deeply powerful: that those who are struggling are not invisible. They are worthy of care, dignity, and healing.
As one supporter shared during this year’s gala, “Humankindness is not just a value—it’s a call to action.” That call resounds in every community where CommonSpirit serves, whether in a crowded emergency department, a rural clinic, or a neighborhood food pantry.
Looking ahead
The first decade of the Humankindness Gala has laid a foundation of healing and innovation. But the work is far from finished. The health challenges facing our nation—mental health, maternal care, violence prevention, housing insecurity, and disparities in access—remain urgent.
With your continued support, the next decade will be defined by even greater impact: expanding mental health care access, equipping more care teams to recognize and prevent human trafficking, bringing maternal mental health screenings to more people, advancing health equity research, and continuing to meet families where they are with the tools they need to thrive.
The face of humankindness
On behalf of the CommonSpirit Health Foundation Board of Directors, we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have stood with us through the Humankindness Gala. Your generosity over the past decade has not only raised funds but has truly embodied humankindness in action.
Together, we are proving that health care infused with compassion can change the world. And together, we look to the future with hope—because every act of giving, no matter the size, strengthens our ability to bring healing where it is needed most.
The Humankindness Gala is not just a celebration. It is a movement—one that begins with you.
